The Synagogue of the Most Holy Theotokos of Kellitranslated

July 2, 2026 · 1 min read

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the Vespers for the Synagogue of the Most Holy Theotokos of Kelli was celebrated with splendor in the homonymous settlement of Amyntaio, where her holy icon is kept and honored. The Mass was officiated by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Floris, Prespa and Eordaia, Mr. Irenaios. The local authorities and a large number of believers from the Parish and the wider region attended.

During his homily, His Holiness developed three basic aspects of the motherly presence in the life of the Church. He referred to the Virgin Mary as the highest model of obedience to the will of God, as the Mother of the Church who constantly stands by her children and as the one who unceasingly leads every person to Christ. He emphasized that true honor towards Her person is expressed through a life of repentance, prayer and active participation in the Mysteries of the Church. In conclusion, he wished the Blessed Virgin Mary of Kelli, to grant everyone health, peace, strength and the abundant blessing of Her Son.

Before the end of Vespers, the procession of the holy icon took place through the streets of the settlement, with the participation of the holy clergy, the local authorities and the pious people.

Saw the procession photos from Amfissa last night - reminded me of how our St. George's parish carries the Kelli icon through the streets on feast days too. Bishop Eirenaeos made me smile with that line about "Mother standing beside her children" - feels so true for us in Melbourne.

I was happy to see the procession through the streets of Amyntaio yesterday - I always come out of Thessaloniki to join in the festivities there, when the image is paraded through the same streets where our parents grew up.

It's really sweet to see the picture walk up the same streets we grew up on, so to speak. Was Kapnitsiti Square the street you used to walk with your parents?

Yes, I remember how in Lviv on Stryiska Street, near the Cathedral of St. Yuriy, grandmothers and children went to the procession. I remember how my grandmother used to say: "You go with your parents, you will go with your sons" - this is the same soul as those who went to Amphis.

I remembered how last year, when they brought Kelly's icon to the church in Ruse, my younger daughter brought her little three-year-old son. He held his grandmother's hand, just like I held my mother's hand when I was little.

I remember how my little daughter held my hand at the procession in Plovdiv when she was little, just as Krasimira wrote about her grandson. Now she's at university — time flies.

Yes, time really flies, Todor. And I remember how my nephew used to shake my hand at the lithia in Ruse years ago, and now he is already taller than me. I'm glad your daughter is at university - you must be proud of her.

Yes, Daniela, children grow up so fast that one wonders where the time has gone. My son already goes to church alone and tells me what he remembered from the service - yesterday he told me that he liked the litany the most. And do you often go to such holidays in Ruse now?
