Extraordinary Staff Meeting at the Holy Diocese of Kalamariatranslated

On Thursday, July 9th, in a central hotel of the area, the first staff meeting of those responsible for the actions of the Holy Metropolis of Nea Krini and Kalamaria took place. The meeting, under the chairmanship of the Venerable Metropolitan of Nea Krini and Kalamaria, Ioustinos, was attended by representatives of the central administration of the Metropolis, the Prokopio Polyvalent Spiritual Center, the General Philanthropy Fund, the Offices of Legal Support, Press and Communication, Ceremony, Youth, Bible Study Synagogues and of catechetics, the School of Byzantine Music and traditional musical instruments, the Anti-Heresy Office, the Scientific Committees, etc., the actions and implementations or not of the goals of the past ecclesiastical year were presented and the goals of the new ecclesiastical year were set.

Reverend Mr. Iustinos, in his introductory speech, warmly thanked all the collaborators for their obedient and humble sacrificial ministry, evaluated the work of the past church year and set the goals for the coming one.

At the end of his presentation, he announced the main theme of the new year which...

It’s good that Metropolitan Justin himself summed up the results and put the main emphasis on the new theme of the year. It’s interesting what exactly they chose as the central target - I hope they will announce it soon. We also hold such meetings in Kazan; it is always useful to see how other dioceses work.

Sounds like a solid yearly check-in. Interesting that Metropolitan Justin himself gave the summary and picked the central theme for the new church year — hope they announce what it is soon. We do similar meetings at our parish here in Denver, always helps everyone stay on the same page.

It is good that Metropolitan Justinos himself summed up the previous year and personally set the main theme of the new year. In our Kutaisi, they often hold such meetings with Philoptokhos and young people, but it is always interesting what they choose as the central target in other metropolises. It's interesting what exactly they chose as their main goal - hopefully they'll say it soon. Here in Ruse, we also hold such meetings with the representatives of philoptochos and the youth group, it always helps to see what has been done and what is to come.

Here in Belgrade, we hold similar assemblies mostly with priests and several committees, but this list - from Bible meetings to the anti-heretical bureau and the Byzantine school - seems serious. I'm waiting for them to announce what the central theme is for the new year.

Yeah, those yearly meetings keep things from drifting. Our parish in Chicago does something similar every fall with the priest and all the ministry heads — nothing fancy, just coffee and a spreadsheet. What kind of turnout do you usually get in Denver?

Here in Banja Luka, we mostly stick to parishes and catechesis, so it's interesting to me how they connect it all into one metropolis. Yeah, those spreadsheet meetings keep everyone honest. Our parish up in New York does the same thing right after Labor Day, usually with about twenty folks around a couple of tables and some kourabiedes. How many ministries does Chicago usually pull together for theirs?

Our group here in Denver usually gets about a dozen folks together in the church hall with coffee and some paximadia. We don't do spreadsheets, just notebooks and a lot of honest talk about what actually worked last year. How many people usually show up for the one in New York?

Here in Kragujevac, we tried to expand with parishes to some similar committees a couple of years ago and the difference in coordination was really felt, but Jovan is right, it easily turns into papers and meetings. I think it could work for you in Banja Luka if they keep to a smaller number of people and don't build too many offices. And how do you organize catechesis now, only through parishes or is there some central coordination?

Our group in Toronto usually has around fifteen people at the annual meeting, held in the church hall with strong coffee and whatever the ladies baked that morning. We skip the spreadsheets too, but we do go through last year’s goals one by one with the bishop listening quietly. How early does your New York meeting usually start after Labor Day?

Our Portland parish council meets the second Tuesday after Labor Day, usually kicking off around 6:30 p.m. with whatever pies my wife pulled out of the oven that afternoon. Fifteen sounds about right for us too; the bishop mostly nods and asks a couple of pointed questions at the end. Does your bishop ever throw in a fishing story to lighten things up?

Our meetings here are a lot more formal—no pies, just coffee and those little Greek cookies that disappear fast. Bishop Justin keeps it pretty serious but he did slip in a quick story about catching mullet down by the pier last year that got a chuckle out of everybody. What kind of pies does your wife usually make?
