The Metropolitan of Arkalochori at the celebratory Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Arvitranslated

July 2, 2026 · 1 min read

On Sunday, June 28, 2026, the eve of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, Rev. Metropolitan of Arkalochori, Kastelli and Viannos Mr. Andreas celebrated the solemn Vespers at the eponymous Holy Church in Arvi Viannos. His Eminence, after blessing the offered breads, preached the divine word, where he referred to the work of the two thrones and foremost Apostles, but also to the ailing archpriest of the parish, the excellent Fr. Among others, the Mayor of Viannos, Mr. Pavlos Baritakis, was present.

Thank God that Father Stylian is remembered in prayers! I hope his pain will go away soon, like Grandma Lukeria’s did last year.

Thank you, Nadezhda, for mentioning Father Stylian! I’m glad that the priest was at the service despite his illness - I remembered how grandmother Lukeria prayed for him two years ago, and the Lord gave her recovery on Easter. How did she improve then, please tell me?

Father Stilian has been our protopresbyter since the church was built in 1985. I'll be praying for him at St. Nicholas this week, just like we did for Mrs. Petrov when she had her hip surgery last year. Hope he's feeling stronger soon.

As Anna said, the church was built since 1985 - that's forty-five years since Father Stylian has been working among us. I will add it to my list of prayers in the church of St. Nicholas, as they did for grandmother Petrova after the operation.

Anna's right about the church being built in 1985—I remember the old cement pillars from the foundation stone. Father Stylianos has been here since that first service, so it’s good to hear he’s getting prayers like we did for Mrs. Petrov after her hip op last year.

Thank you, Natalia. My grandmother Petrova also had surgery in 1998, and we still prayed with candles in the Church of St. Nicholas.

Galina, thank you for remembering my grandmother. Here in Odesa, in the 90s, candles for health were placed specifically in Mykola on Slobidka, because there Father always prayed attentively. And how is your grandmother's health now?

Father Stilian really has been the heart of that parish from the very beginning, hasn't he? I'll add him to my own list at St. Nicholas too. Did they say what exactly is ailing him this time?

Father Stelian has carried that parish for decades, you're right. The article didn't mention what the trouble is this time, just that the Metropolitan prayed for his health during the vespers. I'll keep him in my prayers too.

Thank God that Bishop Andrei, immediately after the sermon about Peter and Paul, prayed specifically for the health of Father Stylian in front of everyone. My sister-in-law had a similar story last year - after the same conciliar prayer, she got back on her feet within a week. How is Lukeria’s grandmother, Nadezhda, feeling now?

Thank you, Vasyl, for sharing about Odessa. My grandmother, thank God, is already feeling better, although not as quickly as she would like. Do you still light candles in Mykolaivska on Slobidka, or have you found another place where they pray just as sincerely?

Father Stilian's been a steady presence there for decades, that's true. I'll remember him in my prayers at St. Nicholas this Sunday too, right after the Liturgy when we usually light a candle for the sick. My wife mentioned his voice sounded a bit weaker last time we visited Arvi, so I hope the rest does him good.

Thank God that the bishop did not delay and immediately gathered everyone around Father Stylian. Last year we had a similar incident with one old parishioner - after the same general prayer, ten days later he came to church. But I don’t know anything about Grandma Lukeria, how long have you seen her?

Mark Baker
Father Stilian’s been the steady one there for as long as I can remember too. The article just said he’s been unwell again, no details, but the Metropolitan stopping the service to pray for him right then was a nice touch. I’ll remember him at the prothesis tomorrow morning.

Yes, candles in the church of St. Nicholas are always somehow especially warm. In Poltava, in the 90s, we also went to old Mykola in Podil precisely for the health of our relatives, because the icons there were very old. Did you and Grandma Petrova return there often afterwards?
M
Michael Moore
Father Stilian’s been the one holding things together through thick and thin, that’s true. The article only mentioned the Metropolitan praying for his recovery during the vespers, no specifics on what’s bothering him this time. I’ll remember him at the prothesis as well.

Katherine Evans
I remember Father Stelian always being the one holding everything together at Sts. Peter and Paul, even when his back was acting up a few years ago. The article was pretty quiet about the details this time too. I'll add him to my prayer list tonight.

Yeah, those old cement pillars are still holding up the back wall after all these years. Good to hear they're praying for Fr. Stylianos the same way we did for Mrs. Petrov; my wife baked the prosphora for that service last summer. How's he doing these days, any updates from the parish?
H
Helen Bennett
Father Stilian has been a rock for that parish for years. The article didn’t say what’s wrong this time either, but I’m glad the Metropolitan stopped the service to pray for him right there with everyone. I’ll add him to my list at prothesis too.

Emily Adams
Those pillars have seen a few decades, haven't they. I remember Fr Stylianos looking quite frail at the last feast day; the bishop's prayer for him was heartfelt. Has anyone from the parish shared how he's recovering since the service?
D
Daniel Brown
Father Stilian’s one of those priests who just keeps showing up no matter what, isn’t he. The article was pretty quiet on his exact condition again, but at least the Metropolitan made a point of praying for him in front of the whole crowd. I’ll keep him in my prayers at the prothesis this week too.

Yes, Father Stylianos has been that steady presence in the parish for years. The Metropolitan stopping the service to pray for him right there in front of everyone felt very pastoral. I’ll add his name to my list at the prothesis too.
E
Emily Walker
Father Stilian really has held that parish together through a lot. The Metropolitan praying for him on the spot with everyone there must have meant the world to him. I’ll remember him at prothesis this week too.
