July 8, 2026 · 1 min read

On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the feast of Saint Procopius was celebrated in the new church bearing his name, which is being built on the hills above the Artificial Lake of Tirana. The sacred services were performed by His Beatitude the Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and all Albania, etc. Ioannis, collaborating with the Theophilus Bishop of Amantia, Mr. Ignatios, as well as with the clergy who serve in the churches of the capital. In his sermon, the Most Theophilous Bishop Mr. Ignatius emphasized that the first centuries of Christianity, although they were the harshest period of persecution, were at the same time a time of glory for the Church, because it was precisely through the martyrs that the transforming power of the Gospel was revealed. Reflecting on the life of Saint Procopius, he described his path from a promising military career to full witness for Christ, emphasizing that God's plan always exceeds human plans and that divine calling remains the greatest force that can transform a person's life.

It is nice that the new church on the hills above the artificial lake is ready for the feast. I liked Bishop Ignatius’s words about how God changes man’s plans, just as he changed the life of Saint Procopius from a soldier to a witness. Is the church open for regular visits on weekdays?

It’s good that the new church on the hills above the artificial lake is already ready for the holiday. I especially liked how Bishop Ignatius said that God’s plan is always stronger than our human ones - just like St. Procopius from a military man to a martyr. Is the church open to ordinary visitors on weekdays?

Yes, the church is really beautiful and built on a high place overlooking the lake. I also liked Bishop Ignatius’s words about God changing our plans, especially since the life of Saint Procopius was a clear lesson in that. As for visits on weekdays, I think it is open for prayer in the morning, but it is best to ask the diocese office to confirm.

And this new church on a hill above a man-made lake sounds like the right place to celebrate. It was especially clear to me what Bishop Ignatius said - that God's plan always overpowers our human ones, as with St. Procopius from soldier to martyr. Are services held regularly on weekdays or only on Sundays?

Yes, the new church on the hill above the artificial lake is a really nice place to glorify Saint Procopius. I liked the most that Bishop Ignatius reminded how God changed his life from a military career to martyrdom - this is just as important today. Are liturgies also held on weekdays or only on Sundays?

Yes, it is very nice that Bishop Ignatius spoke so clearly about God's plan that always overrides ours. The church is in a good place, I see that the people are already gathering. Services are also held on weekdays, but mostly in the morning, not every day a lot of people. And would you come sometime?
