In Gomel, conscripts of the territorial troops took the military oathtranslated

September 6, 2026 · 1 min read

The military oath is a promise of loyalty to one’s people and the Fatherland, for which a person accepts responsibility before the state, fellow soldiers and his loved ones. On September 6, in Gomel, the personnel of the territorial troops undergoing training took the military oath.

The solemn event was attended by the chairman of the department for interaction of the Gomel diocese with the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies, Archpriest Igor Olshanov. The priest blessed those liable for military service to serve the Fatherland, wishing them God's help, courage and fidelity to military duty.

Chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee Ivan Krupko emphasized that territorial defense is part of the overall state defense system. Training camps allow those liable for military service to restore skills in their military specialties, improve training and practice interaction when performing assigned tasks.

Senior Lieutenant Sergei Chernonosov noted that along with taking the oath, military personnel assume responsibility for preserving military traditions, the honor of the defender of the Fatherland and the conscientious performance of military duty.

Yes, taking the oath is no small thing – it’s a promise in front of family, mates and the state all at once. Good that Fr Igor Olshanov was there to bless them on the day; a proper priest’s word means a lot at moments like that. Hope the training goes steadily and they get home safely afterwards.

Yes, the oath really does tie a man to his family, his unit and the country all at once. Fr Igor Olshanov blessing them right there on the day sounds exactly like the steady, no-frills way he does things at parish events too. Hope the training brings those territorial troops home safely once the drills are done.

Yes, tying the oath to family, unit and country all at once makes it feel more real than just some formal words. Fr Igor’s straightforward blessing fits him perfectly – I’ve seen him do the same at our parish feasts without any fuss. Do you know if any of the lads from the choir have been called up for these territorial drills?

Yeah, that part about tying the oath to family, unit and country does make it hit different. Fr Igor’s blessing sounds just like him – no extra fuss, same as when he hands out the prosphora after Liturgy. None of our choir guys have been called up for the territorial drills as far as I know, but I’ll ask around at rehearsal tomorrow.
