St. Great Mc. Christina; St. Mc. Ermogenestranslated

July 23, 2026 · 1 min read

Orthodox calendar, July 24 Holy Martyr Christina The Holy Martyr Christina was originally from Tire (Phoenicia) and lived during the time of the emperor Septimius Severus (193-211).

She was the daughter of the great ruler Urban who, wishing to protect his daughter from the temptations of the world and to serve all the time in the temple of the pagan gods, gave her the highest tower of his palace as a residence, where the statues of the gods in gold and silver were placed.

Hristina, who believed in the true God of Christians, tore down her father's golden idols and distributed them to the poor. For this deed, by order of her father, Hristina was subjected to many tortures and left in that tower for several more years. When he took her out of there, Hristina had not renounced her Christian faith, and therefore Urban threw her into the sea, but she came ashore unharmed.

Locking her in the dungeon, her father was thinking about what kind of tortures to put her through to kill her. Overnight he died, and his successor, Dion, continued the series of tortures to which the Christian Christina was subjected. Finally, she received the crown of martyrdom for the courage with which she kept her faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I remembered how he broke the golden idols and gave to the poor - I can see what that palace would have looked like afterwards. Her father Urban died overnight before he could torment her any more, which seems fair to me. Do we have an icon of St. Christina in our parish? I would like to pray to her more often.

Yes, the scene with the idols broken and given to the poor is the best in the whole story. It's like I can see what that tower looked like afterwards, empty and with shards on the floor. In our parish, I don't think we have an icon of St. Christina, Ana, but I can ask the priest next Sunday.

Yes, I also remembered how he broke those golden idols and distributed them to the poor. It's like I see the empty tower, with shards everywhere, just like Ana and Stefan. Is her troper longer, because in this text it was left unfinished?
