A Candle in Every Time Zone: Prayer by Agreement

September 4, 2026 · 1 min read

Dear friends in Christ, have you ever wondered what it might feel like to join countless brothers and sisters across the globe in a single, unified prayer at the very same moment? This ancient practice, deeply rooted in the promise of Matthew 18:19—“Again, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven”—is alive and well within our Orthodox House Social community.

Currently, eleven vibrant prayer groups are already gathering, united in their petitions. Our dedicated global group, the “Universal Prayer for Peace,” will be praying together tonight at 21:00 UTC, and we warmly invite you to join this sacred hour of shared supplication. Each group maintains a heartfelt commemoration list, remembering the sick and departed among us, and members receive a gentle reminder just before the appointed time.

Whether you are part of a small parish, a local community, or a larger diocese, you can easily create your own group for your beloved Church family. It is a simple yet profound way to extend the prayerful embrace of our shared faith across distances and time zones.

Let us not be strangers to this beautiful tradition of collective intercession. The light of our prayers, joined together, becomes a powerful beacon. We warmly invite you to explore this practice and discover the comforting strength found in praying *with* and *for* one another. Please visit the Prayers section of Orthodox House Social to see the groups and join the next gathering. May the Lord grant us the grace to pray together as one.

Thanks for this, nice to read. In our Kutaisi group, we often remember the sick, yesterday we added the name of a woman. I will try to join this universal prayer tonight at 21:00 UTC, see how it goes.

Thank you, Maria, for telling us about the Kutaisi group. If you added the woman's name yesterday, I will pray for that today at 21:00 when I join the universal group. See how we do.

Thanks for reminding me about 21:00 UTC. Here in Yekaterinburg it will be almost midnight, but I will try to join “Universal Prayer for Peace” - I will just pray for those who were remembered yesterday in the Kutaisi group. I wonder how it will go when so many different time zones converge.
