The Ancient Practice of Prayer by Agreement — Now at Your Fingertips

September 1, 2026 · 1 min read

In the quiet moments before the evening prayer, we are reminded of Christ’s promise: “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven” (Matthew 18:19). This ancient practice of gathering in prayer at the same hour, united in one heart and one voice, is now gently beckoning you through Orthodox House Social.

Currently, eleven vibrant prayer groups are already active, with faithful brothers and sisters joining together in communion. Tonight, the global “Universal Prayer for Peace” group invites all to unite at 21:00 UTC. You need only join the group—no registration needed—and a gentle reminder will arrive shortly before the hour. Each group maintains a cherished list of names, those who are sick, departed, or in need of our prayers, weaving their hopes into the fabric of our shared supplication.

This is not merely an online feature; it is a living echo of the Church’s timeless tradition of praying *with* and *for* one another. Perhaps your own parish, diocese, or community longs for this deepening of bonds. You are warmly invited to create a new group, fostering a local circle of prayer that draws your community ever closer to the heart of Christ.

Let us gather in prayer, as the Church has always done, knowing that when we unite our voices, our Father in heaven hears. Visit the Prayers section now, and join the ancient, living stream of faith that flows through our hearts and our shared time.

Joined the Universal Prayer for Peace last night at 21:00 like Lenka and Oleg mentioned. About twenty of us, reading that long list of names slowly, it did feel like real church, not just an app. Might start a small one for our Chicago area folks who fish together on Saturdays.
