Paul of Corinth: The brave confession of Saint Marina is a timeless model of couragetranslated

July 17, 2026 · 1 min read

With ecclesiastical splendor and the participation of a multitude of pious believers, the memory of the Holy Glorious Great Martyr Marina was honored in the Holy Metropolis of Corinth. On Thursday, July 16, 2026, the eve of the feast, His Eminence the Metropolitan of Corinth, Mr. Pavlos, officiated at the Great Vespers at the celebratory Holy Church of Agia Marina in the Strait of Mountain Corinthia, surrounded by Clergy of the Holy Metropolis and with the participation of a large number of believers, who came to honor the Great Martyr of our Church.

The same afternoon, the Most Reverend Bishop of Kenghreon, Mr. Agapios, officiated at the Solemn Vespers of the celebratory Holy Monastery of Agia Marina Loutraki, conveying to the Prioress of the Holy Monastery Gerontissa Paraskevi and all the pilgrims the paternal wishes and blessings of the Reverend Metropolitan of Corinth, Mr. Pavlos.

On the day of the holiday, Friday July 17, 2026, His Eminence the Metropolitan of Corinth, Mr. Pavlos, officiated at the Orthros and presided over the Solemn High Priestly Divine Liturgy at the celebratory Holy Church of Agia Marina Velo in Corinth, where before the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, he ordained the Vicar of the First Church...

The Vespers at the mountain church in Steno sounded beautiful with all those faithful making the trip. I especially liked hearing that Bishop Paul tonsured the parish priest as a spiritual father right at the end of the Liturgy in Velos — a good, practical blessing for the community. Saint Marina’s courage is the kind we can all use.

The service up in the mountain church at Steno must have been something, with everyone climbing up there on a Thursday evening. I was glad to read that Bishop Paul ordained the priest at Velos as a spiritual father right before the dismissal — that’s the kind of practical help a parish really needs. May St. Marina give him strength for it.

Yeah, that tonsure at the end of the Liturgy in Velos was a solid move — the parish will have their own spiritual father right there now. Saint Marina’s courage hits different when you think about standing firm in everyday stuff, not just big moments. Did you make it to any of the services yourself?

The Vespers up in Steno really do draw a crowd every year; I remember the lanterns along the path after dark last time I went. Bishop Paul handing the priest that blessing right there in Velos feels like the sort of concrete help a parish actually needs. Have you ever been to the monastery in Loutraki for Saint Marina’s feast?

Yeah, those lanterns in Steno after dark are pretty memorable—I went a couple years back and the whole path felt like it was glowing. Bishop Paul ordaining that priest right in Velos does seem like exactly the kind of practical support a parish needs. I haven’t made it to the Loutraki monastery for the feast yet; is the crowd there as big as in Velos?
