The First Diocese of Perth commemorated Saint Paisios, Patron Saint of Australiatranslated

July 13, 2026 · 1 min read

With ecclesiastical splendor and deep spiritual joy, the Holy Diocese of Perth honored the memory of our Holy and God-bearing Father Paisios the Holy, Patron and Guardian of Australia and the Holy Archdiocese of Australia. The celebrations took place on the weekend of July 11 and 12 at the Holy Chapel of Agios Paisios, which is located within the grounds of the Holy Monastery of Agios John the Forerunner in Forrestfield.

The religious events began on Saturday evening, with the High Priestly Vespers, presided over by the Most Reverend Bishop of Perth, Mr. Elpidios, with the participation of clergy and believers, who gathered to honor one of the most popular saints of our time.

At the end of the Vespers service, the Abbot of the Holy Monastery, His Eminence Archimandrite Mr. Makarios Souris, announced with feelings of deep gratitude that the Monastery was entitled to receive two priceless relics that belonged to Saint Paisios himself.

The article mentions the monastery received the saint’s small monastic schema from his final days and a hand-carved icon of the Theotokos he made himself. That’s something special to have right there in Forrestfield. Our choir sings his troparion every year on his feast; wonder if those relics will ever travel for veneration.
