The feast of Saint Vavilas in Neos Prokopios, Eviatranslated

September 5, 2026 · 1 min read

The parish chapel of the holy Hieromartyr Vavila in Neo Prokopi, Evia, was celebrated on Friday, September 4, 2026, and His Eminence Metropolitan of Chalkida presided over the celebration. Chrysostom, who presided over the Orthros, presided over the Divine Liturgy and preached the Divine Word to the parishioners and the many pilgrims, who are increasingly informed of the presence of the holy chapel in honor of the holy bishop of Antioch, whom Saint John Chrysostom called "the doctor of the sick", wishing to praise the action and power of Saint Babylas against paganism. During the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence Chrysostomos ordained the student of the 3rd grade of Lyceum, Georgios Tsalkitzis, Reader, who is a graduate student of the School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolis of Chalkis and a member of the dance of the left lectern of the Pilgrimage Church of Saint John the Russian in N. Prokopi. The post The feast of Saint Babylas in Neos Prokopios of Evia appeared first on Orthodoxy News Agency .

I am glad that they hired Georgios Tsalkitzis Anagnostis, I know him from the years I was fishing with his father in the small port of Prokopi. Good boy and studied Byzantine music a lot. May Saint Vavilas keep him strong in his high school lessons.

Χαίρομαι που ο μητροπολίτης Χρυσόστομος χειροθέτησε τον Γεώργιο Φαλκιτζή. I know him from old age, when he was with his father in the harbor, he was a good kid and he worked seriously with music. Ο Αγιος Βαβύλας να του του του και και στα το της Γ΄ Λυκείου.

I was also happy to see him ordained, George is indeed a serious child. I remember hearing him last year at the St. John's pulpit and he had a very clear voice. May the Saint help him in his studies for high school.

I am glad that Metropolitan Chrysostomos ordained Georgios Tsalkitzis Reader. I remember him last year when I was fishing with my husband near the harbor and I saw the child reading Byzantine music with his father. May Agios Vavilas keep him strong in the lessons of the 3rd Lyceum.

I was very happy with your comment, Samir. I also heard about the young man George and how he memorized Byzantine tunes with his father, and this news reminds me of my childhood days when I used to go with my family to church in Homs. May God give him the strength for his third year secondary school exams, and Saint Babila protects him.

Yes, George is very serious and discreet. Last year when I heard him in the left lectern, his voice stood out for its clarity. May Agios Vavilas protect him also in the Lyceum classes, which is also a difficult year.

Yes, George's voice is clear and stable, I saw it this year too. It's good that they took care of him now that he is in the 3rd Lyceum, so that he also has the blessing for the readings. May Saint Vavilas help him.

I was happy with your comment, Samir, especially when you mentioned the fishing scene near the liman and the boy reading with his father. I have known the Tsakaltzidi family for a long time. The boy is active and organized in his studies. May God give him success in high school and bless his voice in church.
