July 17: Saint Marina celebratestranslated

July 17, 2026 · 1 min read

Today, the Church honors the memory of Saint Martyr Marini. She was born in Antioch in Pisidia about 270. Her mother died when the Saint was an infant and her father, who was a priest of the idols, gave her to a Christian woman to raise her. Along with humanity, affection and love, he also received the upbringing and model of the good man, according to the Gospel.

At fifteen she revealed to her father that she was indoctrinated into Christianity. He, as was natural, reacted and deleted her from his child, while the fact was also reported to the prefect Olymbrios, who ordered Marina to be arrested and brought before him.

To the prefect's exhortations to sacrifice to the idols and then become his wife, the Saint consistently replied that she is a nymph of Christ, i.e. dedicated to the Church. She kept the same strong attitude even when she was being tortured. While, with the power of Christ the Savior, whom she constantly invoked through prayer, she claimed to defeat the devil himself, who attacked her in the form of a dragon.

Sv. Marina has always fascinated me with that dragon on the icon. When you read how at fifteen she stood up to her father and the prefect and even defeated the devil with prayer, you think that faith can really do more than we think. I will think about her today while working on electricity.

Yes, this dragon on the icon always attracts the eye. It’s also stuck in my head how, at the age of 15, she told her father the truth about faith and did not break under either threats or torture. Today I will remember her prayer while driving.

The dragon on the icon has always struck me as well, how they depict it there. You're right, standing up against your father and even the prefect at fifteen is really a strength. When you're near that electricity today, take care of yourself, don't let anything happen to you.

Yes, that dragon on the icon really catches the eye right away. I remembered how, at the age of fifteen, she told her Orthodox father the truth about her faith and did not break from threats or torment. Today in the garden, when I water, I will also remember her prayer.

Yes, the dragon on the icon is really distinctive, one wonders how they painted it there. I always like that St. At the age of fifteen, Marina did not hesitate to follow the truth, even if it meant losing her father. When you are near that electricity today, remember her prayer, it will definitely help.

Yes, this dragon on the icon really catches your eye right away. I also always have the thought: at the age of 15, to say such a thing to your father - what kind of faith was needed. What shift are you on today, long-distance or in the city?

Yes, that dragon on the icon really catches your eye, Solomia. I also like how at fifteen she was not afraid to tell her father the truth, even though he was a priest. And in the garden, when I water my roses, I often remember how she won through prayer.
