Meetings of the Patriarch of Jerusalem with representatives of communities of the Holy Landtranslated

In the context of his pastoral care for the Greek Orthodox communities of the Holy Land, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Mr. Theophilos held a series of meetings with clergy and representatives of communities, examining issues concerning the ecclesiastical and community life of the faithful. His Beatitude received, on Friday July 3, 2026, Archimandrite Leontios, Abbot of the Pilgrimage of Cana, as well as the Commissioners of the Pilgrimage. During the meeting, issues concerning the Greek Orthodox flock of Cana were discussed.

On the same day, His Holiness also received Fr Charalambos-Farah from the Kufr Yasif Community.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the Patriarch of Jerusalem had a meeting with Fr. Stavros Arankis, elder of the Birzet Community, regarding issues of the local community.

Afterwards, he received Archimandrite Dositheos, Abbot of Jericho, for issues concerning the flock of the region.

Finally, His Holiness met with Mr. Basim Asfour, President of the Community of Nazareth, and the Commissioners of the Community. At the center of the meeting were issues concerning the Greek Orthodox flock of Nazareth.

Χαίρομαι που ο Πατριάρχης συναντήθηκε με τον Αρχιμανδρίτη Λεόντιο από την Κανά και με τον κ. Μπασίμ Ασφούρ από τη Ναζαρέτ. Είναι σημαντικό να ακούει τα προβλήματα των κοινοτήτων αυτών από κοντά.

Μου άρεσε που ο Πατριάρχης μίλησε και με τον π. Σταύρο από το Μπιρζέτ και τον Αρχιμανδρίτη Δοσίθεο από την Ιεριχώ. Είναι καλό να βλέπει από κοντά τι γίνεται στις μικρότερες κοινότητες, όχι μόνο στις μεγάλες όπως η Ναζαρέτ.

Me parece bien lo que dices, Nicolás. Esas visitas a Birzeit y Jericó muestran que el Patriarca no se olvida de las comunidades más chicas. Ojalá siga así, porque a veces las parroquias pequeñas se sienten un poco solas. ¿Has estado alguna vez por la zona de Jericó?

Sí, coincido con Nicolás, es importante que el Patriarca visite también a los de Birzeit y Jericó, que son comunidades más pequeñas y a veces quedan un poco apartadas. A mí me llamó la atención la reunión con el archimandrita Leontios en Caná, porque allí el rebaño es muy fiel pero el santuario necesita siempre atención. ¿Tú has ido alguna vez a Caná, Nicolás?

Хорошо, что Патриарх не забывает и про Кану, и про Иерихон, и про Назарет. Особенно отметил встречу с архимандритом Леонтием — там ведь паломники всегда много, нужно следить за порядком в храме. А в маленьких общинах вроде Бирзейта действительно легко остаться в стороне, рад, что их тоже услышали.

Хорошо, что Патриарх встретился и с отцом Харалампосом из Куфр-Ясифа. Про эту общину редко пишут, а там ведь тоже греко-православные семьи живут годами. Интересно, обсуждали ли они, как сохранять службу на греческом, когда паломников мало.

Sí, Andrés, Birzeit y Jericó siempre necesitan esa atención extra porque quedan más aislados. A mí también me gustó lo de Caná; el santuario es un lugar especial, aunque la última vez que fui con mi marido y los niños fue hace tres años y ya vi que hacía falta alguna reparación en el techo. ¿Tú crees que el Patriarca planea ir pronto a Nazaret otra vez?

It's good the Patriarch met with Fr Charalambos from Koufr Yasif as well – that little community doesn't get mentioned often. I remember reading once how they keep the Greek services going with just a handful of families. Hope they talked about practical things like that.

Sí, Birzeit y Jericó siempre parecen más complicados por lo aislados que están. Lo de Caná me llamó la atención también, ojalá arreglen pronto ese techo que mencionas. ¿Tú has vuelto a Nazaret últimamente o sigues yendo más a Caná con la familia?

Good to see the Patriarch made time for Fr Charalambos from Koufr Yasif. That parish rarely gets mentioned, yet those families have been holding on for years. Wonder if they talked about keeping the services going with so few people.

Согласен, Илья, особенно с тем, что в Бирзейте легко остаться в стороне — там община небольшая, но люди держатся за храм. А в Кане действительно всегда толпы паломников, помню, как в прошлом году автобус с группой из Минска еле припарковался у монастыря. Хорошо, что Патриарх лично всё это держит под контролем.
