Prime Minister: The Greek Community in America is a bridge between Greece and the USAtranslated

July 2, 2026 · 1 min read

"At the headquarters of the Presidency of the Greek government, in the Maximos Palace, we celebrated the 250th anniversary of American Independence. A historic anniversary that reminds us of the timeless power of the ideas of liberal democracy", says Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his post about the dinner he hosted for US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle for the 250th anniversary of American independence. "However, it also refers to the common historical path of Greece and the United States. A path that goes beyond diplomatic ties and measures two and a half centuries of shared values and historical experiences, as I had emphasized in my speech at a joint session of Congress in May 2022," continued Mr. Mitsotakis.

And he pointed out: "The ideas that inspired the Founding Fathers of American Independence had their roots in ancient Greek thought; and the example of American democracy in turn inspired the pioneers of the Struggle for Greek Independence who saw in the American experience a living proof that freedom can be won when accompanied by faith, unity and determination."
