Solemn Vespers with thousands of believers in the Holy Monastery of Damastastranslated

September 8, 2026 · 1 min read

At the Theotokofrouritos Monastery of Panagia Damasta, on the outskirts of Kallidromou Mountain, the Grand Solemn High Priestly Vespers of the Theotokos Feast of the Birth of the Virgin Mary was celebrated tonight under the patronage of His Eminence Metropolitan Fthiotidos Mr. Simeon. Crowds of believers from Lamia, the wider historical region of the triangle Alamana - Gorgopotamos - Thermopylae, as well as from neighboring Phocis, went up to the historic Monastery of Panagia, to place their reverence and faith in the Mother of the whole world, the Most Holy Theotokos Damasta, who "tames" human suffering.

The Sacred Hymns were performed with perfection by professors, students and graduates of the Conservatory of the Holy Metropolis "German the Melody" under the Director of the Lord Master of the Great Church of Christ Dr. Mr. Andreas Joakim, while the service was broadcast directly by the Radio Station of the Holy Metropolis (89.4 Fm) and on the Internet.

It is interesting that a choir of students and graduates of the "Herman Melod" odeion sang. It is good that young people are involved in such panegyris. And approximately how many people gathered that evening?

Yes, the choir of students and graduates of "Herman Melod" always sings cleanly, it is pleasant to listen to. As far as I understood from the photo and the report, there were several thousand people - they even came from Phocis. Have you been to such monastic eulogies yourself?

I am glad that the choir of students and graduates of "Herman Melod" sang well again, it always comes out clean. But it is interesting how many thousands gathered, because they went from Lamia and even from Phocis. I myself would gladly go to such an evening eulogy, here in Krasnodar they also like to gather for the Mother of God in the monastery.

I always like that they bring students and graduates from the German Melody Conservatory – Dr. Andreas Joachim has learned them well. From Lamia to Phocis so many go up, and Panagia Damasta does tame the pain, I've known it for a long time. I had also gone once with my husband before he left, I remember the silence after vespers.

It was good that the choir of students and graduates of Hermann Melod, led by Andreas Joachim, sang again. From the article I realized that even from Phocis people rose up, thousands gathered. In Samara, there are always a lot of people at the patronal monastery in Samara, but, unfortunately, there is no such choir.
