Yeah, that line always hits me. The same guy who probably fixed their roof or made a yoke for their oxen suddenly stands up in the synagogue and teaches like no one else. Makes you wonder how often we miss what God’s doing right in front of us because it doesn’t fit the picture we already have. Good reminder.

Yes, this verse from Mark 6 always moves me. My husband had been making furniture and repairing roofs for his neighbors for years, and then suddenly someone was joking with him that "he's the carpenter." I wonder how many people from Nazareth later regretted not asking Him for more than just repairing the table.

Yes, that line from Mark 6 is always on my mind. I imagine how He was hewing beams or fixing doors in some house in Nazareth, and then he went out into the synagogue and spoke so that everyone fell silent. My father-in-law was also a carpenter, so I know how people look at you while you're just doing repairs, and then suddenly they don't believe that you can do anything more.

Just last week we were reading this passage from Mark 6 in our choir. I can imagine how the carpenter, who was fixing the neighbors’ carts or putting up joints, suddenly spoke with such authority - and everyone froze. My late husband was also a carpenter, so these words are always especially close to home. I wonder how many people later came to Him not at the table, but for healing?
