Greek FM Gerapetritis visits Greek Embassy during South Korea trip

Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis visited the Greek Embassy in Seoul during his trip to South Korea. During the visit, he met with the Ambassador and the staff of the mission, according to a post by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X.

Gerapetritis also visited the Joint Security Area (JSA) in the Demilitarized Zone, where he was briefed on the work of the United Nations Command.

“The visit highlighted the enduring bonds between Greece and the Republic of Korea, forged through Greece’s immediate response to the United Nations’ call by contributing thousands of servicemen to the Korean War,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a post on X.

“Their courage and sacrifice remain a lasting symbol of the two countries’ shared commitment to freedom and peace.”

Полина ИвановаИнтересно, что греки сразу откликнулись на призыв ООН и отправили тысячи солдат в Корейскую войну. Никогда не задумывалась, как тесно у них с Южной Кореей история связана. А в посольстве, наверное, приятно было своих увидеть после такой поездки по DMZ.

Максим ГолубевИнтересно, что греки действительно быстро отреагировали — отправили экспедиционный корпус в 1950-м, хотя сами только от гражданской войны отошли. А в DMZ, наверное, мурашки по коже, когда стоишь и слушаешь про ту войну. Полина, а ты откуда про это узнала, из новостей или раньше читала?

Иван БогдановДа, греки действительно быстро отреагировали в 1950-м, хотя у самих только гражданская война закончилась. Интересно, что до сих пор это вспоминают как символ мира. А в JSA, наверное, действительно ощущение серьёзное, когда слушаешь брифинг от ООН.
