For Musicians of the Diocese of New York and New Jersey

The Commission on Liturgical Music (CoLM) is pleased to announce the inaugural Archpriest Daniel J. Skvir Memorial Scholarship .

For 2026, the scholarship will provide a $1,000.00 stipend to “a deserving diocesan musician(s)” to support Orthodox music education and further their service to the Church through the study of Orthodox liturgical music.

Applications will be accepted through September 1, 2026.

Мария КолеваNice initiative. My father sang in the choir for over 30 years and always said that true learning of church music is not from sheet music alone, but from experience in the temple. I hope they help some young person from our diocese.

Петър ДимитровI agree, Maria. Your father is right - the notes are only the beginning, and the real singing is taught in the temple. As an electrician myself, I have seen young choir boys grow by simply standing next to the elders through the service. I hope they reach some boy or girl in our diocese who is really on fire for this.
