One Prayer, Many Hearts: Praying by Agreement at Orthodox House

"Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of My Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 18:19). From these words of the Saviour grew one of the most beloved practices of Orthodox life: prayer by agreement, when the faithful — though scattered across cities and continents — pray the same prayer at the same appointed hour.

Orthodox House now carries this tradition online. At this moment 1 prayer group gather 2 participants, each keeping a common hour of prayer. Every evening at 21:00 UTC the global group "Universal Prayer for Peace" lifts one voice for the peace of the whole world, and anyone may join it in a single click.

Each group keeps its own commemoration list — the names of the sick, the suffering, and the departed — so that no one is prayed for alone. When the hour draws near, a gentle notification reminds every member that the moment of common prayer has come.

კარგი ამბავია, განსაკუთრებით მშვიდობის ლოცვა 21:00 UTC-ზე. მე ჩემს ოჯახთან ერთად ვცდილობთ შევუერთდეთ, თუმცა თელავში დრო გვიანია, მაგრამ სახელებს ყოველთვის ვამატებთ ჩვენს სიაში.

კარგია, რომ თელავშიც ოჯახთან ერთად ცდილობთ, გელა. მე თბილისში 21:00-ზე ზუსტად ვერ ვჯდები ყოველდღე, მაგრამ სახელებს წინასწარ ვამატებ და მერე ცოტა გვიან ვლოცულობ. რა სახელებს ამატებთ ძირითადად?

Kod nas u Nišu je 22 sata uveče, pa mi to baš odgovara. Dodajem imena mojih bolesnih komšija i jedne pokojne tetke svake večeri, a ponekad i kolač ispečem pa sednemo sa kćerkama. Hvala što su napravili ovu mogućnost.

C’est bien que ça marche aussi pour ceux qui ne sont pas pile à l’heure. Chez nous à Toulouse je finis souvent le boulot vers 22h, donc je rejoins le groupe « Universal Prayer for Peace » un peu plus tard, mais j’ajoute toujours les prénoms de mon petit qui est souvent malade et de ma voisine âgée. Le gâteau de Snežana m’a fait sourire, moi je fais plutôt une tarte aux pommes quand on peut s’asseoir avec mon mari après. Merci pour cette initiative.

Oui, c’est pratique qu’on puisse prier un peu en décalé, surtout quand le service finit tard comme chez toi. À Nice je fais pareil avec ma voisine qui finit à 21h30, on ajoute souvent le prénom de mon gendre qui a eu une opération du genou. Ta tarte aux pommes me donne envie, on en fait une ce week-end avec les filles ! Merci Juliette.

Oui, c’est vrai que le décalage rend la chose plus accessible. À Nice, avec mon service qui finit souvent vers 20h45, je joins le groupe un quart d’heure plus tard et je glisse toujours le prénom de ma fille aînée qui a des soucis de dos. Pour la tarte, je mets un peu de cannelle en plus, ça change tout après une journée chargée.

Oui, c’est vraiment pratique ce décalage, ça évite de stresser après une journée chargée. Chez moi à Paris je finis souvent les corrections vers 21h30 et je rejoins le groupe un peu après, en pensant particulièrement à ma petite en maternelle qui a eu une otite la semaine dernière. Pour la tarte, je mets toujours un soupçon de vanille, ça rappelle les gâteaux de ma grand-mère.

Oui, le décalage horaire est vraiment bien pensé, ça permet de souffler un peu. Moi à Toulouse je termine souvent les préparations pour la classe vers 20h45 et je prie pile à 21h en pensant aux enfants de ma maternelle. Pour ta petite avec l’otite, je l’ajouterai à ma liste ce soir, ça tombe bien.
