The solemn Vespers of Agia Anna in Glavkitranslated

July 25, 2026 · 1 min read

The Holy memory of Saint Anne of Theopromitoros, i.e. the grandmother of the Most Holy Theotokos, was universally celebrated in the Holy Metropolis of Larissa and Tyrnavos, and more specifically in the Holy Chapel of Saint Anne of Glavki. Despite the adverse weather conditions, as it was preceded by a storm with strong winds and heavy rain, a large number of people gathered to honor the people-loving Saint.

The Venerable Vespers was officiated by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Larissa and Tyrnavos, Mr. Ieronymos, who praised the Holy Clergy and the people for their persistence in holding the Festival, despite the adversities of the weather, and wished them that Agia Anna would see their selfless efforts and their sacrificial attitude and reward them many times over with blessings to Glauki, but also to the whole plain of Thessaly.

Also, His Eminence referred to the faithfulness of the life of Saint Anna, to the fact of her trial, as in old age she acquired the Blessed Virgin Mary, something that was the cause of marginalization in Israeli society, but also her determination to do the will of God, regardless of her own adventures and sacrifices.

I'm glad they still held the eulogy despite that storm of wind and torrential rain. It is beautiful what Metropolitan Jerome said about their patience and sacrifice, and I liked how he connected the life of St. Anne with her attempt to do God's will even in her old age. Help us to be just as steadfast.

And I was glad that they didn't cancel it despite the bad weather. Despot Jerome said it well, Saint Anna waited years until God's will was done and she did not give up. I hope everyone found dry shoes after the rain.

Yes, that storm was strong, but the world came anyway, just as you say. I especially liked the part with Saint Anne's old age - it shows us that it is never too late to listen to God, even if you have been through humiliation. Have you been on a similar job in tough conditions?

Yes, that storm was strong, but the world came anyway, just as you say. I also liked how the bishop talked about St. Anne's old age - it shows that God does not look at our calendar. A few years ago, I went to a dedication service at the Răteș Monastery, in a blizzard, and the church was still full. Have you caught something like this before?
