July 12, 2026 · 1 min read

The Youth Camps of the Diocese of Bukoba and Western Tanzania at the "Joy and Peace of Christ" Camp Center in Kasikisi, Tanzania, have been completed. The central theme was "I love the Orthodox family - I want to have an Orthodox family".

The Most Reverend Bishop of Bukomba and Western Tanzania, Mr. Chrysostomos, performed the consecration at the beginning of each period and celebrated the Divine Liturgy for the Campers on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

The Camp program included Morning-Evening-Supper services, common bank, entertainment.

The Hagiographic Readings were related to the Wedding and were presented by Bishop Chrysostomos, Archim. Sophronios Fakas, the Nun Paraskevi and the Theologian Yiannis Tumba.

In the afternoon dialogues, the following suggestions were made:

1. ORTHODOX CHURCH AND ORTHODOX FAMILY, by Bishop Chrysostomos

2. DISTURBANCE OF MARRIAGE BEFORE AND AFTER by Bishop Chrysostomos

3. SEQUENCE OF THE MARRIAGE by the Prime Minister Archim. Sophronios Fakas

4. AFRICAN MARRIAGE by Rev. Father Paul Kagoma

5. COFFEE CULTIVATION IN THE DIOCESE AND PARISHES AND THE PARTICIPATION OF THE ORTHODOX YOUTH by the Orthodox agriculturist Salvator…

Sounds like a solid program — especially the talks on deviations from marriage before and after, and that one on the African wedding by Fr. Paul Kagoma. Good to see the coffee farming session too, tying the youth right into the local economy. Bishop Chrysostomos covering so many of the Scripture readings himself must have made it hit home.

It is interesting that Bishop Chrysostomos himself held conversations about deviations in marriage, and Father Pavel Kagoma spoke about African weddings. And also about coffee - well done for attracting young people to the business, it wouldn’t hurt in our garden either.

I liked how they brought in the African wedding talk too — Fr. Paul Kagoma must have made it feel real for the young people there. The coffee farming bit is practical; my son always says you can't separate faith from how you earn your daily bread. Did the youth actually get to work on the farms during the camp, or was it just a lecture?

It’s good that Bishop Chrysostomos himself held conversations about deviations in marriage and about the Orthodox family. In our Sunday school, we also often talk to the children that family is not only a wedding, but also daily work. And it’s interesting about coffee in the diocese - they planted new bushes at my dacha this year, maybe they’ll teach the youth something.

The talk on deviations from marriage before and after really stood out to me too – practical stuff that young people actually need to hear. Bishop Chrysostomos presenting so many of the Scripture readings himself would have given it real weight. Did they hand out any notes or booklets from those sessions?

Yeah, Fr. Paul’s talk on African weddings probably hit home since it came from local life, not just theory. The coffee farming lecture sounds like the practical touch your son would appreciate—here in our parish garden we always say the same, faith and work go together. They didn’t mention hands-on farm work in the report, just the talk; wonder if the bishop planned any actual planting next year.

The part about deviations before and after marriage hit home for me too — especially the practical warnings that actually match what our teens face here. I wish we had something like those coffee-growing sessions for our young people; it tied faith straight to daily work in a way that felt real. Did you hear if any of the talks got recorded?
