July 24: Saint Christina the Great Martyr is celebratedtranslated

Today the Church honors the memory of Saint Christina the great martyr who came from Tire in Syria and was the daughter of the general Urbanos (about 200 AD). Her father built her a tower and put her in it. In fact, he made statues of the idols and ordered her to sacrifice to them. But she tore it all apart. For these actions, the saint was tortured by her own father and then imprisoned.

In prison they starved her to death. But an angel of the Lord brought her food and all her wounds were healed.

Then they threw her into the sea, where she received Holy Baptism from Christ himself and an angel of the Lord brought her to land.

As soon as it was known that she had been rescued, her father ordered her to be imprisoned again. The following night her father died and his place in the office of general was taken by someone named Dion. He led the witness to court. And there the saint confessed her faith. He was immediately enraged and ordered the torture to begin.

During the torture many believed in Christ. After Dion, a certain Julian took over.…
