Historic day for Samos – New life in three important monuments of faith and cultural heritagetranslated

Friday, July 3, 2026 was a special day for Samos, as three important events related to the protection, promotion and continuation of the life of sacred and historical monuments of our country took place, in the presence of the Minister of Culture, Mrs. Linas Mendoni. The first stop was the Metropolitan Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Karlovasos, where the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Samos, Ikaria and Korseon, Mr. Eusebius, performed the Consecration for the start of the restoration and maintenance work of this historical church, which was heavily damaged by the earthquake of October 30, 2020.

In his greeting, His Eminence said: "After the on-site visit of the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis on October 31, 2020 and his hopeful statement: "Your Honor, together we will ring the Bells again, because this is what this magnificent Church deserves, as well as throughout the history of this beautiful place."

I remember how after the 2005 flood on St. Đorđe's belfry needed to be repaired. Now I hear that the bells of Samos will be repaired again, as the PM promised. May God protect them.

Last year I was in Samos, I saw this church in Karlovasi - the cracks are still noticeable, but the scaffolding is already standing.
