Bosnia: Controversy over 14th-century Serbian manuscript Gospeltranslated

A sacred handwritten gospel dating back to the 14th century, belonging to the Serbian Church and still used in the liturgical life of the Church, has become the subject of controversy in Bosnia.  Report office ope.gr

The cause of the dispute with the Republika Srpska was the attitude of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which allegedly included the holy gospel in its jurisdiction, presenting it as a Bosnian manuscript.

According to rts.rs The "Gospel of Chainits" as it is known is kept in the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin in Chainits. It is a valuable medieval manuscript which dates back to the late 14th century. It is written in the same script as the Gospel of Miroslav. It is also unique in that it is still used in the Divine Liturgy today while being owned by the Serbian Orthodox Church.

At the same time, the Republika Srpska strongly opposes the appointment of two foreign members to the Commission, in addition to two representatives from the Federation and one from the Republika Srpska. The intention, they say in Banja Luka, is to question the Serbian historical and…

It is interesting that this Gospel from Chaynice is still used at the Liturgy. It is from the 14th century, like Myroslavov, and belongs to the Serbian Church. Why did the commission suddenly decide to call it Bosnian when everyone knows where it is kept and who it belongs to?

Yes, Galina, the very fact that it is still placed on the throne in Chaynitsa during the Liturgy best shows whose it really is. The commission probably wanted to "privatize" another artifact, but even a child can see where it lies and by whom it has been used for centuries. Haven't you heard if they are planning something similar from other Serbian monasteries?
