Funeral service of Archimandrite Hilarion Grammenos on Mount Tabor

The funeral service of the late Archimandrite Hilarion Grammenos, one of the last representatives of the older generation of abbots in the Holy Land, was held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior on Mount Tabor.

Archimandrite Hilarion reposed in the Lord on the afternoon of June 18, prompting an outpouring of grief among the clergy, monastics, and faithful of the Jerusalem Patriarchate.

The funeral service was presided over by Elder Chrysostomos, Abbot of the Monastery of Saint Gerasimos of the Jordan. Numerous clergy, monks, and pilgrims gathered to pay their final respects to the departed elder.

Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem participated in prayer during the service and delivered the funeral oration, honoring the life and ministry of Archimandrite Hilarion and recalling his many years of faithful service to the Church of Jerusalem.

In a statement issued following his repose, the Jerusalem Patriarchate expressed its profound sorrow and highlighted the late archimandrite’s fruitful and dedicated ministry in the Holy Land.
