And this year on July 7th is the Nativity of John the Baptist according to the old style. It’s interesting that they took such a long Gospel - from the message of Zechariah to “and there was a child in the desert.” Zechariah, by the way, is my favorite moment when he became mute, and then he wrote his name and speech returned.

Yes, the Gospel is long this time, from the good news about Zechariah when he became mute to the end of what he said about John, “And the child grew.” I also love the Zechariah part, especially when he wrote the name on the board and opened his mouth. In Zahle, we usually read these verses in full in the Mass.

Yes, this year July 7, according to the old style, is the Christmas of John the Baptist. I also always love the moment when Zechariah wrote "John" on the board and immediately spoke. In our parish, this long passage is also sometimes read, especially if someone asks. Are you baking something special for this holiday?

Yes, according to the old style, July 7 is the Nativity of the Forerunner. I, too, always remember Zechariah: he wrote “His name is John” on a tablet - and immediately his tongue loosened. And a long Gospel, probably, to cover the whole story from the beginning to the desert, without interruption.

Yes, I remember how our father would read this part slowly when Zechariah opened his mouth, as if we were hearing the voice for the first time. In our house, we used to write John’s name on a piece of paper and hang it in the kitchen every year. Have you tried this habit, Hanna?

Yes, Zechariah with this tablet is the brightest moment, as if all fear and disbelief fell away in an instant. And the Gospel is really long, but you can see how everything from the angel’s promise to “the boy grew up” is connected. What is your favorite part of this reading, Mikhail?
