Informatics day for children from the Orthodox Academy of Cretetranslated

JCrete4Kids is here again to bring you a unique experience full of learning and fun for kids! On Saturday 1 August, and from 09:00 to 14:30, another free programming and robotics day is coming, where our little friends will have the opportunity to explore the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, with Kimani and Phippy!

Participants will also gain basic programming knowledge by building a game from scratch on a design platform (Greenfoot)! Get ready to discover the excitement of creative programming and robotics while having a great time with friends!

If you are between 8 and 14 years old, come along with your laptop to the Orthodox Academy of Crete, let's have fun creating together.

Children spend a day full of fun, develop analytical, synthetic and creative thinking, cultivate teamwork and come into contact with New Technologies. We learn by creating. We learn to use our Computer... and not let it use us!

Interesting sounds, especially Greenfoot for making a game from scratch. My girl is still 2, but when she gets a little older, I might enroll her in something like this at Acadenia. I just wonder how many kids will gather on August 1st, so it won't be too much of a stampede.

It is interesting that they emphasize “the machine does not use us, but we do not use it.” This is right. In our Sunday school we also try to ensure that children don’t just click, but understand what they are doing. Greenfoot sounds like a good thing to start with; my daughter will be old enough in a couple of years.

It seems well organized, especially the part where they say that you learn to use the computer instead of letting yourself be used. My youngest granddaughter is 9 years old, she loves tinkering with things with her hands, I wonder if Greenfoot would appeal to her as much as the gardening we do together on Saturdays. Do they accept children who have never programmed at all?

I'm glad they emphasize "we learn to use the computer, not have it use us". At the restaurant, I see children every day who just press buttons without understanding anything. Greenfoot sounds interesting to my 13 year old, but we are fishing with his uncle on August 1st, so maybe next time.

Interesting that you mention Greenfoot - I've taken the bus to Acadenia a few times and seen the kids there having fun with that sort of thing. Your 2-year-old girl is still early, but in 5-6 years she will like it. How many children do you think should be in a group so they don't bump into each other?

Interesting that you mention Greenfoot - I've read about it in a Java book and it seems really easy for kids to make a game from scratch. For August 1, there will probably be 15-20 kids at most, because the Academy is not a huge hall. Are you from Plovdiv going to take the girl one day or will you wait for her to grow up more?
