I wonder who exactly remain without an increase and why even the metropolitans are dissatisfied? They always say that money is not important in the church, and then such a fuss is made.

It's always the same: we are told that money doesn't count in the Church, and as soon as there is a new salary scale, even the metropolitans grumble. I especially wonder who are the small employees who are left with nothing, the sacristans or the cantors for example, they have no voice to protest.

The sacristans and chanters are probably the ones left out again, just like Julien said. It’s funny how everyone claims money doesn’t matter in the Church until the new pay scale comes out and even the metropolitans start complaining. Maybe it’s time they fixed the lowest salaries first instead of the top ones.

I agree with you about the sacristans and the cantors, they are often the last served and hardly have the right to speak. Back home, in Strasbourg, an old cantor told me one day that he still works two small jobs to make ends meet after thirty years of service. It's still curious that the voices that carry the most in the nave are those that count the least in the salary tables.

Yes, these small employees like the sacristans or the cantors are often forgotten in these grids. At home in Paris, I saw an old sacristan who continues at 72 because his pension is not enough. The metropolitans have their voice, at least.
