A religious procession with the Don Icon of the Mother of God began in the Volgograd Metropolistranslated

With the blessing of the Head of the Don Metropolis, Metropolitan of Rostov and Novocherkassk Mercury and at the request of Metropolitan Theodore of Volgograd and Kamyshin, from September 8 to October 12, 2026, a religious procession is taking place in the Volgograd Metropolis with an exact list of the miraculous Don Icon of the Mother of God.

On the eve of the bringing of the Don Icon of the Mother of God to the Volgograd Metropolis, Metropolitan Mercury of Rostov and Novocherkassk, in an interview with the press service of the Volgograd diocese, spoke about the special significance of the shrine for the residents of the Don, the history of its veneration and the spiritual meaning of bringing the holy image to other dioceses.

“For me, the Don Icon of the Mother of God and the Most Pure One Herself are the most valuable things that can be in life, as for most believers. At first we tried to treat this holy image with special care, we were afraid to even touch it, but over time we realized something much more important: it is not we who protect the icon, it protects us. Indeed, the Don Icon of the Mother of God is the spiritual Guardian of this region.
