On July 19, 2026, the 7th week after Pentecost, Archbishop Varlaam of Makhachkala and Derbent celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Assumption Cathedral in the capital of Dagestan.

The night before, the hierarch led an all-night vigil in the cathedral church.

His Eminence was co-served by the clergy of the Assumption Cathedral.

Liturgical chants were performed by the choir of the cathedral church under the direction of Honored Artist of the Republic of Dagestan Natalya Makeeva.

After reading the Gospel, the bishop addressed the flock with an archpastoral word.

At the special litany, special petitions were offered. Archbishop Varlaam read a prayer for Holy Rus', performed in all churches of the Russian Orthodox Church with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill.

The sermon before communion was delivered by the dean of the Makhachkala church district, Priest Sergiy Abasov.

At the end of the service, Bishop Varlaam held an evangelical conversation with parishioners at the diocesan spiritual and educational center on the territory of the cathedral church.

Thanks for this story. I remember how beautifully our choir sang when it had a director like Natalya Makeeva. It's good that priest Sergiy Abasov also preached - his sermons are always simple and close to the heart.

Thanks for the news. It is nice that the choir sang under the direction of Nataliya Makeeva - I heard that she always works very harmoniously. But the prayer for Holy Russia and the conversation with the authorities by Varlaam after the service probably supported people well in such heat in Makhachkala.
