Orthodox calendar, July 14 Holy Apostle Achilla Together with his wife, Priscilla, they were among the Jews who left Rome following the order of Emperor Claudius and settled in Corinth, working as a tent weaver. Here he hosted the Holy Apostle Paul.

Following Paul's sermon, love for Christ ignited in the souls of the two and, after receiving baptism, they helped to spread the Gospel of Christ alongside the Holy Apostle Paul.

Thanks to this zeal, the Holy Apostle Achila was ordained bishop in the city of Heraclea in Pontus, converting the pagans, smashing the idols, erecting churches and ordaining priests, a fact for which, together with his wife Priscilla, he suffered martyrdom during the first persecution.

Saint Aquila and Priscilla made me think today - to host an apostle like Paul and then to become a bishop and a martyr together with your wife is no small feat. I remember how they worked as tent weavers, as if I could see their workshop in Corinth. Could Priscila have been the one who sewed better?
