Patriarch of Antioch receives Romanian Embassy officials in Damascus

Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East received the Chargé d’Affaires of the Romanian Embassy in Syria, Radu Gîmbuțean, and Consul Cristian Iuțu at the Patriarchal Residence in Damascus on June 19, 2026.

During the meeting, Patriarch John X emphasized the strong and longstanding ties between the Patriarchate of Antioch and Romania, both at the ecclesiastical and national levels.

“We enjoy the best of relations with Romania, both as a Church and as a people,” the Patriarch stated, highlighting the deep bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite the two countries and their Orthodox faithful.

The meeting provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on current developments and issues of mutual interest. The participants also discussed the general situation in the region and the importance of maintaining dialogue and cooperation during this period.

The visit reaffirmed the close relations between the Patriarchate of Antioch and Romania, reflecting the longstanding friendship and mutual respect shared by the two Churches and peoples.
