July 20, 2026 · 1 min read

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Larissa and Tyrnavos Mr. Hieronymos went to the celebratory Holy Monastery of Prophet Ilios Tyrnavos tonight, Sunday July 19, 2026, in order to officiate at the Solemn Vespers, preach the Divine Word and bless the breads.

The Holy Monastery, which in recent years has been manned by a brotherhood and is developing dynamically in the area, is a center of love for the residents of Tyrnavos, which is why, despite the unbearable heat, a large number of people came to worship the Holy Icon of the fiery Prophet, light his candle and pray with hope and faith.

In his sermon, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Larissa and Tyrnavos, Mr. Ieronymos, taking occasion from the incident of the miraculous feeding of the widow in Sarethfa, Sidonia, following a miracle of the Prophet Helios by order of the Holy God, reminded that many had various certainties, such as e.g. their wealth, their property, their power, their acquaintances, and many other things, which, however, are changeable in the changes and fluctuations of life. Thank you for the news. Το κήρυγμα του Μητροπολίτη Ιερώνυμου για τη χήρα στα Σαρεφθά μου Μεμενε, because it shows how little is based on the things we know for sure - money, houses, gnosts. When I went to church with my husband, I was thinking exactly the same thing.

True, Elena, that part about Zarefta's widow's faith touched me too. I have seen in my life as a nurse how quickly things we call safe can change. Do you have a specific moment that reminded you of this the most during the ministry?

Yes, Kristina, I was also touched by this part of Sarefta's widowhood - especially when I relate it to your work as a nurse. I have seen it in a cousin of mine in Elbasan, who lost his job and house within a year, but relied on a simple priest and things turned around. Do you have a special case from the hospital that came to your mind during the sermon?
