Makarios of Australia: "We preserve Greek as the language of worship almost universally with sacred commitment"translated

On Tuesday, September 8, the Most Reverend Archbishop of Australia Mr. Makarios attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the 12th International Summer University "Greek Language, Culture and Media - The Greek Language in Australia: From Memory to the Future". This premier academic and cultural event is hosted in Sydney and, specifically, at the University of New South Wales (6 -11 September 2026). By way of introduction, His Eminence thanked the Organizing Committee of the International Summer University for the honorable invitation, while he congratulated its organizers - in particular the Dean of the Faculty of Education of the University of Ioannina, Ms. Tsitsanoudi-Mallidis, founder and scientific manager of the program, and the head of the Greek Studies Program of the University of New South Wales, Professor Mr. Vasilios Adrachtas. At the same time, he expressed grateful thanks to the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Konstantinos Tassoulas, under whose auspices the organization is taking place.
