Didymoteichos Damascenes: "Prophet Elijah, the Fiery Prophet"translated

As part of his pastoral ministry, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Didymoteicho, Orestia and Soufli Mr. Damascenes, on the feast of the Prophet Helios of Thesvitos, successively visited celebrating parishes of his Akriti province. On the morning of Sunday, July 19, 2026, on the eve of the festival of the parish of Koufovounou Didymoteicho, he officiated at the Holy Parish Church of Prophet Ilios, which was inaugurated in 1900, by the then Metropolitan of Didymoteicho Filaretos Vafeidis.

Commenting on the Gospel reading of the day, during which the memory of the God-bearing Fathers of the 4th Ecumenical Synod is commemorated, His Holiness emphasized that the God-bearing Fathers are not only teachers of theory but guides of our spiritual journey and models of life. Their life, he continued, was a course of study and prayer, their daily life was filled with giving to fellow human beings and pure charity. They lived dynamically and unyieldingly in the midst of temptations and difficulties, just like the Prophet Elijah, who with his word, with the power of prayer, his charity and his militancy against deviation, led the people of God to repentance.…
