First Divine Liturgy by Metropolitan Epifaniy at St. Anne Church of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra

July 25, 2026 · 1 min read

On the feast of the Dormition of St. Righteous Anna, the mother of the Most Holy Theotokos, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, presided for the first time over the Divine Liturgy at the St. Anne Conception Church, located above the Far Caves of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, on July 25, 2026.

Concelebrating with the Primate of the autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine were Bishop Arseniy of Bohuslav, Bishop Avraamiy of Boryspil, Bishop Feodosiy of Irpin, Bishop Rafail of Makariv, and the brotherhood of the monastery.

Following the reading of the Holy Gospel, His Beatitude offered a special prayer to the Lord for Ukraine, which is currently enduring a time of severe trials and danger.

Prayers were also offered for the Ukrainian servicemen defending the country, for the authorities and the people, as well as for the repose of the souls of all fallen defenders of the homeland and civilians who have lost their lives as a result of the war.

The timing on St Anna’s day does make sense, that bit’s fair enough. But when they start listing prayers for the “fallen defenders” and Ukrainian servicemen right there above the Far Caves, it does make you wonder how the monks still living in the Lavra who serve the other way are getting on with all this.
