Životopis: Jeho Eminencia zvolený za arcibiskupa Apostolos Kanadypreložené

Jeho Eminencia, metropolita Apostolos z New Jersey sa narodil ako Evangelos Koufallakis na ostrove Rhodos v Grécku. Je druhým zo štyroch detí Ioannisa a Stergie Koufallakisovcov. Základné vzdelanie ukončil na ostrove Rhodos. V roku 1990 bol prijatý na historickú cirkevnú školu Patmos, tiež známu ako Patmeada, kde sa prvýkrát zoznámil a neskôr si osvojil ortodoxnú byzantskú hudbu a hymnológiu.

29. apríla 1993 bol Evangelos tonsurovaný mníchom vo Svätom a posvätnom kláštore Panagia Paramethea, v tom čase dostal meno „Apostolos“. 20. júna 1993 bol otec Apostolos vysvätený do svätého diakonátu svojím duchovným otcom, metropolitom Apostolosom z Rodosu. Slúžil v Rodoskej metropole ako diakon metropolitu a po roku dostal Offikion archidiakona.

V októbri 1995 otec Apostolos zložil všeobecné panellenovské skúšky a bol prijatý na Aristotelovu univerzitu v Solúne na štúdium pastoračnej a sociálnej teológie. Počas svojho teologického vzdelania bol otec Apostolos 28. júla 1996 vysvätený do Svätého kňazstva a dostal Offikion Archimandrita od…

I didn't know he was from Rhodes and studied Byzantine music at Patmos—that explains a lot about how well our services have been chanted since he came. Interesting that his spiritual father and the bishop who tonsured him shared the same name. Looking forward to learning more about his time in New Jersey.

Yes, the Patmos training really shows—those troparia do flow better now without the old rush. I only caught one of his services in New Jersey, at the cathedral last fall, and the chanting stuck with me the whole drive home.
