Almost 2.9 million children started school: What's new this yeartranslated

Almost 2.9 million students and preschoolers started the 2026-2027 school year on Monday, Agerpres informs. 200,845 teachers work with these children in the new year, according to EduPedu information.

The school year has, for most students, 36 weeks of classes and ends on 18 June 2027, but there are different end-of-course calendars for certain forms of education. See here the new structure of the school year.

What's new this school year For grades I-VIII, new national evaluation standards come into force this year, which will allow the comparison of grades between schools, supporting the use of annual averages in educational decisions, informs Libertatea.

Among the novelties of this school year is a greater share of specialized subjects and the possibility for students to partially customize their curriculum, choosing the electives they want.

Another good news is that the social grants worth 300 lei per month will continue to be awarded even during the school holidays, with the family income threshold increasing by 7%, which could mean that more students could receive these grants.

This year there are new assessment standards for grades 1-8 - it will finally be possible to properly compare schools. I wonder how this will affect our ordinary Moscow realities. And about increasing the income threshold for social scholarships, it’s good, more guys will be able to receive this 300 lei, or whatever it is we get.
