51 years since the passing of the Protos to the Eternals. Nicodim Măndiță, priest at Văratec and Agapia monasteriestranslated

Monday marks the 51st anniversary of the transition to eternal life of Protosinghel Nicodim Măndiță, one of the best-known clergymen of the 20th century.

The cleric was born on October 28, 1889, in the village of Bunești, Argeș county. Between 1916-1918, he fought in the First World War, and in 1920 he entered monasticism at the Măgura Hermitage in Bacău. He was also ordained a priest then.

In the period 1921-1923, he was a missionary priest in the village of Schitul Frumoasa (Bacău), then a priest at the Giurgeni Monastery (Roman). For a decade he carried out missionary activity in Transylvania, in the localities of Pâclișa (Alba), Hărmașul Ciceului and Leurda Gârboului (Cluj).

From 1935 to 1945 he was a priest at the Agapia Monastery, and in the following 17 years he served at the Văratec Monastery. He spent the last years of his life again at Agapia, where he lived in peace and prayer until his passing to the eternal, on July 6, 1975, at the age of 86.
