Dimitriados Ignatios: The Fathers become an example in the life of every believer (VIDEO)translated

July 18, 2026 · 1 min read

Watch the short video prepared by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Dimitrias and Almyros, Mr. Ignatios, for the Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the 4th Ecumenical Synod.

Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the Fourth Ecumenical Synod. And there are three characteristics of the Fathers in the Church. First of all, they know the Bible well, they interpret it with prayer because they are people of prayer.

Then there are those who offer to every man. Their life is full of charity, love, affection, forgiveness, they set a good example with their own life and their daily life and finally they are always stable.

Firm in the truth of the faith, which they defend in every way. They are the ones who protected the church from everything heretical. This is why they become an example in the life of every believer who, when he wants to be Christ's, must know the Bible, be philanthropic and forgiving and of course firm in the truth of faith.

This is what the Fathers of the Church teach us, this is their example for the lives of all of us. "

Matthew BrownThe part about the Fathers knowing Scripture through prayer really hit me. I catch myself reading the Bible in a rush sometimes, like it's just another item on the list. Need to slow down and actually pray over it more, the way they did. Thanks for sharing the video.

James BennettThat part struck me too, Matthew. I remember years ago trying to read the Gospels before fishing trips at dawn — it felt rushed until I started reading one short passage out loud and then just sitting with it a minute in silence. Made the whole day different. Have you found any particular book or chapter that helps you slow down like that?
