Isa.3:1. Behold... the Lord... will take away from Jerusalem... that is, strong and strong; strengthening him with bread and... strengthening him with water, that is, anyone who would provide bread when the bread in the city runs out, and would provide water when the storehouses dry up during the siege. Isa.3:2–3. The judge... and the ruler of fifty... and the old man and the wondrous man. The Lord will take away all the rulers - the rulers of thousands, the rulers of hundreds, the rulers of fifties and the rulers of tens, whom Moses appointed to sort out matters and report to him, because they perverted the truth by loving to take gifts. Isa.3:4. And I will make young men their princes, and insults will rule over them... Isa.3:5. The boy will fall in love with the elder... by this he accuses them of partiality, and makes it known that since they themselves have perverted the statutes, using their freedom for evil, the Lord, against their desire, will upset their ranks. Isa.3:8. And they dishonored the cloud of His glory. The prophet speaks here either of the disgrace that was caused in ancient times to the cloud by casting a calf under it, or of the disgrace that was caused to the tabernacle that was first in Shiloh, and then in Solomon’s Temple, when idols were placed in the courts of the house of God. Isa.3:10. They have upset the righteous... For they eat the fruits of their deeds, that is, those who brought disgrace to the cloud of “His glory” will be consumed. The name righteous means either God, or a prophet, or all the righteous people who were among them. Isa.3:12. My people, your attendants are reaping you, that is, one after another they rob you. - You are controlled either by the wives of your superiors, or by sorceresses. My people, the blessed ones flatter you, that is, either priests who apostatized from the true faith, or false prophets. And the paths of your feet are disturbed, that is, with evil teaching they divert you from the right path leading to God. Isa.3:14. The Lord himself will come to judgment with the elder people, - that is, he will sue priests and teachers, - Isa.3:15. Why would you offend My people? You yourself are wicked, and you teach others your wickedness; By your crafty example, which you set for My people, you harm them more than anything else. And do you disgrace the face of the poor? drive away with dishonor and disturb the poor only because you do not see gifts and promises from them. Isa.3:17. And the Lord will humble the first daughters of Zion, that is, he will disgrace them with inglorious captivity. Isa.3:18. The Lord will take away...the braiding of their hair, that is, on the day of humiliation he will take away all their adornment. Isa.3:19. Wrists... lace... Isa.3:21. and light Laconian, that is, coverings, or garments, extending to the heels. Isa.3:23. And... instead of a good stench... and instead of a belt... and instead of a golden ornament on their head... they will have a stench... and... narrower (rope), and sackcloth..., and they will have shaving on their heads, and bandages covering their heads as a sign of mourning. Isa.3:25. And they will weep, and its mighty gates will sit in tears, that is, learned men, rich and powerful (Is. 3:25). You might be interested in:
