Nicosia: People, Church and State honored the defenders of the Republic, 52 years after the treacherous couptranslated

With a flurry of commemorations and events throughout Cyprus, the people, the State and the Church are honoring the fallen defenders of the Republic, 52 years since the treacherous coup of the junta of the colonels in Athens and the accomplices of EOKA II. After the end of the commemoration at the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Nicosia, which was officiated by the Archbishop of Cyprus, Mr. George, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis emphasized that there is absolutely no justification for the treacherous coup. "We are here," he added, "to condemn it and to honor those who sacrificed so that there could be democracy in this place."
President Christodoulidis noted that the gratitude of the people and the State will be eternal to these heroes, for saving the Republic of Cyprus.
He pointed out that the treacherous coup was used by Turkey as an occasion to impose timeless goals, which it had set before the Republic of Cyprus was even established.
