✤ The miraculous Saint Peter of Tatar (+ 1290 AD) ✤
Nephew of the Tatar khan Barjaj. He was present when the Bishop of Rostov, Saint Cyril, visited the capital of the Tatars, the Golden Clan, in the year 1253. He heard him tell about the miracles that took place at the shrine of Saint Leontius of Rostov. These words penetrated his heart deeply. When he witnessed, after a short while, the healing of Ibn Barjaj at the hands of the saintly bishop, he secretly left the palace and accompanied him to Rostov, where he was baptized and devoted himself to a life of piety. One night, while he was praying on the bank of the lake, the apostles Peter and Paul appeared to him and ordered him to build a church in that place in their honor. He built the church with enthusiasm and enthusiasm and founded a monastery in which he became a monk, in his old age, after the death of his wife. He fell asleep in the Lord on June 29, 1290 AD. The monastery has since been called “Peter’s Monastery.”
