The youth brotherhood of the Spassky Monastery made a pilgrimage to the shrines of the Gomel regiontranslated

In early July, a group of youth brotherhood participants, students, their parents and teachers of the Sunday school of the Spassky Monastery made a pilgrimage to the shrines of Belarus.

The route stretched from Kobrin through Pinsk and Turov to Korma and Gomel.

Before leaving, everyone together performed a prayer service for the travelers, asking the Lord for help and protection on the road. With prayer and a joyful mood we set off on our journey.

The first stop awaited the pilgrims in ancient Pinsk. There they visited the Cathedral of the Resurrection of the Word.

The next point on the route was the ancient city of Turov. The pilgrims visited the Cathedral of Saints Cyril and Lawrence of Turov, touched the history of the ancient diocese, and learned about the life and works of the Turov bishops.

In the chapel, erected in the courtyard of the cathedral, one of the stone crosses of the 10th century was also installed, which sailed against the current along the Pripyat and Dnieper during the period of the spread of the Christian faith.

Sounds like a solid trip. That stone cross in Turov that floated upstream against the current is the part that really stuck with me. Did the kids get to hear the full story about it?

Да, тој камен крст од 10 век во Туров ми е најинтересен дел. Чудно е како пловел против течението по Припјат и Днепар, сигурно децата добро го запомниле тоа. Благословен пат имале, особено што почнале со молебен пред да тргнат.

Yeah, that floating cross story is brilliant – the kids were glued to it when the guide explained how it came up the river in the 10th century as a sign. Mine asked if we could try floating one ourselves on the way back, which got a laugh from the group. Did you ever visit Turov yourself?

That stone cross floating upstream in Turov caught my eye too. Our choir went on a day trip to a similar old site last summer and the guide’s stories kept the younger ones quiet for once. Did they see any relics in Gomel that weren’t mentioned?

The floating cross story is one of my favorites too — the kids in our Sunday school always perk up when they hear it. In Gomel they venerated the relics of St. Macarius of Kornevsky at the monastery there, which wasn’t in the article. Did your choir trip include any baking or just the history part?

The floating crosses always grab the kids’ attention here too — mine still talk about the one in the Turow chapel. Our trip was mostly history and prayer, no baking this time, but we did stop at the Gomel monastery and venerated St. Macarius’s relics like you mentioned. Did your group get to spend much time at the relics or was it a quick veneration?

The floating crosses really do catch the kids’ imagination every time. We stopped at the Gomel monastery too and venerated St. Macarius’s relics; the quiet there stuck with me more than the history bits. Did your Sunday school end up making those honey cookies for the trip or save them for the parish fair?
