Putna Monastery 560 years after its foundation: Its foundation reflected a country project, says a historiantranslated

The fathers of the communities marked on Friday 560 years since the foundation of the Putna Monastery, officiating at the summer altar the Holy Liturgy and a Parastas for the founders, servants and collaborators passed on to the eternal ones.

Finally, Archim. Melchisedec Velnic, the abbot of the monastery, read extracts from a text dedicated to the monastery by the historian Ștefan S. Gorovei and published in the album "Evesnicii din țara Mușatilinor ctitorite în lemn, părătă i colore", published recently by Crimca Publishing House of the Archdiocese of Suceva and Rădăuţil.

About the "adornment" of Putna "Following the words of St. John the Golden Mouth, Stephen the Great loved the adornment of the House of God, but he understood this adornment in a more special sense, choosing to intertwine the needs of worship with what today we call art and culture. Greater adornment than was created in Putna, how could one imagine?", wrote the historian.

Ștefan S. Gorovei mentioned the contribution of the Lavra to Romanian culture and art throughout history, through hundreds of books of which dozens have survived, masterpieces of medieval embroidery and a music school that produced the famous hymnographer Eustatie Protopsalt.
