It is good that Vladyka Joseph led the service on this very day. Here in Rostov, too, Peter and Paul are always celebrated in a special way; fishermen especially honor them. I wonder how many people gathered in Yasenevo?

Yes, there were quite a lot of people in Yasenevo, especially whole families came to the liturgy. Here in Voronezh, fishermen also respect Peter and Pavel, they even put an icon in their boat. In Rostov, what do you usually do after the service, fry fish or just go for a walk?

In Rostov, after the service, they usually just walk around the church courtyard and chat, and fry the fish at home, if anyone has a catch. It’s interesting that in Voronezh they put an icon in a boat - I’ve never seen anything like that here. Do you go fishing with your family on this day?

У нас в Portland на День Петра и Павла тоже всегда стараемся всей семьёй на службу, хотя рыбаки у нас не такие, как в Ростове или Воронеже. Интересно, что в Ясеневе целыми семьями пришли — у меня дочки тоже любят, когда после литургии можно просто постоять и пообщаться во дворе. А владыка Иосиф часто служит так душевно, рада, что он возглавил.

We always try to make it to the Peter and Paul liturgy as a family too, though our little parish in Pittsburgh is nothing like those big Russian ones. I like how you mentioned the girls just hanging out in the yard afterward — my nieces do the exact same thing, chatting and chasing each other while the adults linger. Does your family usually cook something special with fish that day, or keep it simple?
