On September 8, Orthodox Christians remember the martyrs Adrian and Natalia of Nicomedia, who are revered as patrons of marriage and family well-being. This day is associated with church traditions, folk signs and a number of prohibitions that believers tried to adhere to.

What kind of holiday is this

September 8, according to the church calendar, is the day of remembrance of the martyrs Adrian and Natalia. Saint Natalia of Nicomedia is a 4th century Christian, the wife of Hadrian, who experienced mental turmoil after his martyrdom. She followed him on the path of spiritual suffering, marking herself as a bloodless martyr.

Adrian and Natalia are a couple from the city of Nicomedia (Asia Minor, modern Turkey), whose history dates back to the beginning of the 4th century, during the reign of Emperor Galerius Maximian (305–311).

Adrian held the position of an official in the judicial chamber and was a pagan, and his wife Natalia professed Christianity, but hid it. During the period of persecution at Nicomedia, 23 Christians were arrested, tortured and brought to Hadrian to have their names included in the judicial list.
