Ierapytnis Kyrillos: It depends on us if we respond to Christ's invitationtranslated

September 7, 2026 · 1 min read

On Matthew 14th Sunday, September 6, 2026, Rev. Metropolitan of Ierapytni and Sitia Mr. Kyrillos officiated at the procession of Orthros and then officiated at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Agios Georgios of Ierapetra, where at the end he celebrated the four-day holy memorial service for the repose of the soul of blessed Maria Stamatiou Aronis, mother of the Protopsaltos of the church and its Director School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolis of Ierapytni and Sitia, Mr. Ioannou Aronis, and the two-year memorial service of Blessed Dimitra Bandouvaki. In his short sermon, after the reading of the Gospel, Rev. Mr. Kyrillos analyzed the meanings of the evangelical passage of royal weddings, stressing, among other things, that: "royal weddings symbolize the divine Eucharist, during which the King of Kings, our Lord Jesus Christ, invites everyone to participate in His supper, which is a union with Him, an engagement and a foretaste of the wedding of the eternal Kingdom of Heaven.

It depends on us if we respond positively to the constant invitation of our Christ and if we wish to wear the corresponding garment of the garment of incorruption and spiritual purity, which we received...

The bit about the "garment of incorruption" really stuck with me – it's a sharp reminder that showing up isn't enough, we actually have to live like we've put that baptismal robe back on. Fr. Ioannis must be comforted that his mother's soul was remembered with both the 40-day and the two-year memorials in the same service. May God grant them all rest.

Yes, they definitely noticed about the “incorruptible clothing”. It turns out that we are all invited, but without this purity, which we received in baptism, we are not suitable for the feast. It’s a pity that we often forget about this the very next day after communion. Remember, Lord, the soul of Your servant Mary.

I agree, Peter, about the “incorruptible garment” is very accurate. It happens to me that after communion, by the evening I begin to get irritated by little things in the office, and all the cleanliness seems to disappear. Remember, Lord, the soul of Your servant Dimitra. What do you think is the easiest way to “not lose” these clothes on weekdays?

I agree, Elena, after Communion, irritation at work really quickly returns, as if you forget why you came to church. It helps me when in the evening before going to bed I simply re-read the same Gospel passage about the wedding feast and mentally check what “clothes” were torn today. Have you tried keeping a short Jesus Prayer with you in the office, when small things start to stick?

Yes, about the “incorruptible clothing” is really catchy. After communion, I also often have everything falling apart at the seams by the evening, especially if I’m stressed at work. But re-reading the same passage about the royal wedding in the evening is a good idea, I’ll try to do that. Remember, Lord, the soul of Your servant Mary.
