Gen.37:3. “And Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was the son of his old age, and they made him a coat of many colors.” Instead of “robes of many colors,” Aquila translated “clothes ἀστραγάλειος,” that is, “to the toes.” Symmachus translated “manicata clothing” (from Latin: manus – “hand”. – Translator’s note), that is, either it went down to the toes and at the same time the hands of the master decorated it with an amazing multi-colored pattern, or it had sleeves. After all, ancient people wore short sleeves more often than we do. Gen.37:28. "And they sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of gold." Instead of “gold” in the Hebrew text there is “silver”. Because it is not suitable for the Lord to be sold for cheaper metal than Joseph. Gen.37:36. “And the Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to the eunuch Potiphar, Pharaoh’s archmagir.” In most cases, Scripture uses the name archmagirov, that is, chief cooks, meaning the commanders of the army, because μαγειρεύειν in Greek means “to kill.” Thus, Joseph was sold to the head of the military unit. And not Petephriya, as it is written in the Latin translation, but the eunuch Potiphar. Then the question arises: how is it further said that he had a wife? The Jews have a tradition that Potiphar bought Joseph for himself because of his extraordinary beauty to satisfy his vile desires. But the Lord dried up Potiphar's reproductive organs. And subsequently he was chosen according to the rules of the high priests to serve as high priest in Iliopolis. And his daughter's name was Asenath. Joseph later married her.
