Gen.38:5. “And she gave birth to a son and called him Selom. And she was in Khazbi when she gave birth to him.” This is a Hebrew verb, not a place name (Hazbi). Aqila translated it this way (he does not have the word “Hazbi”): “And she called him by the name of Selom. And it happened that she lied about her birth after she gave birth to Selom.” This means that after giving birth to Selom, she stopped giving birth. Thus, the word Khazbi does not refer to a place, but to a lie. That is why it is written elsewhere in Scripture: “The work of the olive tree will lie” (Hab. 3:17), that is, the olive tree will not bear fruit. Gen.38:12. “Judah, having been comforted, went up to Timna to his sheep shearers, himself and Hirah the Adullamite his shepherd.” Instead of “shepherd,” we read “friend” in Hebrew. However, this word can be understood in two ways, because both nouns are written with the same letters, but “friend” is read ree (רֵעֵ ֥), and shepherd – roe (רֵעֵ ֥ ה). Gen.38:14. “And she sat down at the gate of Enam, which is on the road to Timna.” The Hebrew word enaim (עֵינַ ֔ יִם) is translated "eyes". Therefore, this is not the name of the place, but the meaning is this: she sat down at a road fork or at an intersection, where the traveler must pay more attention to which road to follow next. Gen.38:26. “Judas found out and said: she is more right than me, because I did not give her to Selom my son.” The Hebrew text says: “_she is justified because of me,” because, of course, she was not righteous, but compared to her father-in-law, she committed a lesser sin. After all, she was not at all striving for frivolous promiscuity, but was looking for a way to prolong the family line. Gen.38:29. “And behold, his brother came out. And she said: why was the barrier broken for you? And she called his name Fares." Instead of "obstruction", Aquila and Symmachus translated "division", which in Hebrew sounds like phares (פָּ ֽ רֶץ). From the fact that he broke the membrane of the placenta, he received the name “separation”. Therefore, the Pharisees, who supposedly, by virtue of their righteousness, separated themselves from the people, were called “separated.” Gen.38:30. “Then his brother came out with a red thread on his hand. And she named him Zara." This name is translated as "east", either because he appeared first, or because many righteous people were born from him, as stated in the Book of Chronicles (1 Chronicles 2ff.).
